Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi

Services: Sound reinforcement design, commissioning Customer: Great Mosque Abu Dhabi Year: 2010

The Great Mosque in Abu Dhabi holds about 8000 visitors and is every Friday and all Islamic holidays fully attended. The Mosque is open between prayers for visitors from all over the world.

The sound system in the mosque was inadequately designed and did not function as desired. After an initial assessment, the main loudspeakers were replaced with larger line-arrays and the system was tuned for optimum performance.

We were also commissioned to design a new sound system for the inner courtyard (approx. 120 x 120m), as the previous system produced extremely annoying echoes due to the opposite rear wall. Two 11m long arrays were designed by Duran Audio, which were programmed as an acoustic unit using a DDS algorithm.
