A public address system was installed for the eastern tube of the so-called apron tunnel at Frankfurt Airport in the event of an alarm. The system consists of eight tunnel horns of the type Ambient Systems ABT-TNL 100.
Together with the client, the plant was commissioned and measured in November 2020.
The achievable useful levels in the tunnel are on average LAeq = 100dB.
Speech intelligibility without background noise averages STI = 0.52, with background noise of LAeq = 84 dB still STI = 0.45.
The announcements are still very easy to understand even in a moving car.
